Introduction
We are looking at three high-end robots that represent the best from two established manufacturers in the sector. The Dreame L40 Ultra AE and the Dreame X50 Ultra Blanca are 2025 offerings from a brand that has successfully positioned itself by providing advanced features, whilst the Roborock Qrevo Edge 2 arrives in 2026 as a response from the world's leading brand in robot vacuum cleaners. All three units integrate a complete multifunction base, laser navigation and mopping systems with rotating mops, but the differences in power, height, battery capacity and specific functions mark quite distinct usage profiles.
The L40 Ultra AE presents itself as a balanced option with good tank capacity and 19,000 Pa power. The Qrevo Edge 2 stands out for its compact design, with just 79.8 mm in height, and superior power of 25,000 Pa. The X50 Ultra Blanca opts for maximum autonomy with a 6,400 mAh battery and unique capabilities such as overcoming steps of up to 42 mm.
Power and Suction
The Roborock Qrevo Edge 2 clearly leads in raw power with 25,000 Pa, compared to the 20,000 Pa of the X50 Ultra Blanca and the 19,000 Pa of the L40 Ultra AE. This difference is particularly relevant on medium or long pile carpets, where extraction capacity marks the difference between an acceptable result and a deep clean.
Regarding brushing systems, each model opts for different technologies. The L40 Ultra AE features the TriCut 3.0, which combines bristles with blades to cut tangled hair. The Qrevo Edge 2 uses Roborock's DuoDivide system, designed to push hair towards the centre facilitating suction. The X50 Ultra Blanca incorporates the dual HyperStream brush, with two brushes anchored at one end that effectively minimise hair tangles.
The extendable side brush appears on the Qrevo Edge 2 and the X50 Ultra Blanca, notably improving corner sweeping. Additionally, these two models feature an anti-tangle side brush, a function not included on the L40 Ultra AE. Only the X50 Ultra Blanca can lift its side brush during mopping, preventing it from interfering with the wet mops. All three units lift the main brush when mopping, a function now standard in this range.
Mopping
All three robots use two rotating mops for mopping, although with differences in speed and pressure. The Qrevo Edge 2 rotates at 230 RPM with 8N pressure, whilst the L40 Ultra AE and the X50 Ultra Blanca reach 180 RPM. In practice, that higher speed and pressure from the Roborock can make a difference on stubborn stains.
All extend the mops to better reach edges. The L40 Ultra AE and the X50 Ultra Blanca add the RoboSwing movement, a wiggling motion of the robot that allows the mop to slightly reach under overhangs or low furniture. Mop lifting reaches 12 mm on the Qrevo Edge 2 and 10.5 mm on the Dreame models, sufficient in all cases to climb onto thin carpets without wetting them.
An important difference: the Qrevo Edge 2 mops with warm water, whilst the two Dreame models use cold water in the robot's tank. Warm water helps dissolve grease better and improves results on difficult stains. Regarding mop washing at the base, the Qrevo Edge 2 reaches 80°C, the same as the X50 Ultra Blanca; the L40 Ultra AE stays at 75°C. For drying, the Qrevo Edge 2 dries at 55°C, compared to 45°C for the two Dreame models.
The Qrevo Edge 2 and the X50 Ultra Blanca can automatically remove the mops at the base when only vacuuming is needed, preventing them from unnecessarily dragging dust or hair. The L40 Ultra AE does not include this function. All three detect dirt both on the mops and on the floor to adjust mopping.
Navigation System
The L40 Ultra AE uses a fixed 360° LiDAR turret, which adds height to the robot. The Qrevo Edge 2 and the X50 Ultra Blanca feature retractable LiDAR, which descends when not needed, allowing for lower designs. This partly explains why the Roborock measures only 79.8 mm in height.
In object recognition, the Qrevo Edge 2 identifies up to 280 different obstacles, the X50 Ultra Blanca recognises 200 and the L40 Ultra AE stays at 120. Beyond the number, what's relevant is that the Roborock and the X50 Ultra Blanca detect curtains, avoiding getting tangled in them; the L40 Ultra AE does not include this function. The X50 Ultra Blanca incorporates a dual AI camera, compared to the single camera of the other two.
Only the Qrevo Edge 2 and the X50 Ultra Blanca recognise stains using artificial intelligence to reinforce mopping in those areas. All three models recognise pets, allow remote camera access and feature LED for night vision. The L40 Ultra AE and the X50 Ultra Blanca use Dreame's CleanGenius 2.0; the Qrevo Edge 2 employs Roborock's SmartPlan 3.0. The X50 Ultra Blanca specifies an AI Sage 13.0 Octa-core processor.
Autonomy and Battery
The Dreame X50 Ultra Blanca stands out with a 6,400 mAh battery, clearly superior to the 5,200 mAh of the L40 Ultra AE and the Qrevo Edge 2. This greater capacity translates to 180 minutes of declared autonomy, very similar to the 188 minutes of the Roborock. The L40 Ultra AE does not specify autonomy in minutes.
For large homes, that extra battery in the X50 Ultra Blanca can mean completing cleaning without intermediate recharges. In smaller or medium-sized areas, the 5,200 mAh of the Qrevo Edge 2 proves more than sufficient, especially considering its energy efficiency.
Smart Functions
The ability to overcome obstacles clearly separates the X50 Ultra Blanca from the rest. Whilst the L40 Ultra AE and the Qrevo Edge 2 can handle steps of up to 20 mm, the X50 Ultra Blanca climbs single steps of 42 mm and double steps of up to 60 mm. This proves decisive in homes with level differences between rooms, high thresholds or complicated transitions between floors.
The Qrevo Edge 2 and the X50 Ultra Blanca integrate a built-in voice assistant, allowing control of the robot without needing to use a mobile phone or external assistants. The L40 Ultra AE only works with Alexa or Google Home. All three are compatible with these external assistants.
Multifunction Cleaning Base
All three bases auto-empty the dust bin, wash and dry the mops with hot air. The L40 Ultra AE and the X50 Ultra Blanca feature second and third generation wash tray self-cleaning respectively; the Qrevo Edge 2 specifies version 2.0.
Only the X50 Ultra Blanca includes UV disinfection of the mops after washing, reducing bacteria and bad odours. The L40 Ultra AE and the X50 Ultra Blanca have a detergent tank in the base, which is added during mop washing. The Qrevo Edge 2 does not include this function.
In capacities, the L40 Ultra AE and the X50 Ultra Blanca share a 3.2-litre dust bag, 4.5-litre clean water tank and 4-litre dirty water tank. The Qrevo Edge 2 has a 2.7-litre bag, 4-litre clean tank and 3.5-litre dirty tank. These differences mean greater autonomy between emptying in the Dreame models.
The L40 Ultra AE and the X50 Ultra Blanca offer an optional plumbing connection kit, purchased separately, which allows you to forget about manually refilling and emptying tanks. The Qrevo Edge 2 does not have this option available.
Dimensions
The Roborock Qrevo Edge 2 is the lowest at 79.8 mm in height, followed by the X50 Ultra Blanca at 89 mm and the L40 Ultra AE at 97 mm. Those nearly two centimetres difference between the Roborock and the L40 Ultra AE can be decisive for passing under furniture, sofas or low beds. In diameter they are practically identical: 350 mm for the Dreame models, 352 mm for the Roborock.
The robot's dust bin reaches 395 ml in the L40 Ultra AE and the X50 Ultra Blanca, compared to 240 ml in the Qrevo Edge 2. The robot's water tank is 80 ml in the Dreame models and 67 ml in the Roborock. Although these differences seem large, in practice they matter little because the bases constantly refill and empty during cleaning.
The bases of the L40 Ultra AE and the X50 Ultra Blanca measure 590.5 mm high and 456.7 mm deep. The Qrevo Edge 2's is lower (521 mm) but slightly deeper (487 mm). The width is identical in all three: 340 mm.
Real-world usage experience
In large homes, the X50 Ultra Blanca offers clear advantages: 6,400 mAh battery, larger tanks in the base and capability to overcome significant level differences without getting stuck. If the house has steps between rooms or high thresholds, this model resolves situations that would stop the other two.
For homes with pets, all three main brushes avoid hair tangles, although the X50 Ultra Blanca's HyperStream system and the Qrevo Edge 2's DuoDivide prove especially effective. The anti-tangle side brush of the Roborock and the X50 Ultra Blanca adds points in this scenario. The 25,000 Pa power of the Qrevo Edge 2 helps extract embedded hair from carpets.
If you need to pass under low furniture, the Qrevo Edge 2 with its 79.8 mm height accesses spaces forbidden to the L40 Ultra AE. The X50 Ultra Blanca, at 89 mm, sits at a reasonable middle point.
