Introduction
The Dreame L40 Ultra AE, Mova P50 Pro Ultra and Mova P50 Ultra are three high-end robot vacuum cleaners launched in 2025 that share a common technical foundation, but with significant differences in their capabilities. All three units offer 19,000 Pa suction power and a 5,200 mAh battery, as well as featuring a multifunction base that washes and dries the mops with hot air.
Although they belong to the same technological family—Mova is a second brand of Dreame—each model is designed for different user profiles. The L40 Ultra AE stands out for its AI camera integration and remote access, whilst the P50 Pro Ultra incorporates advanced functions such as its own voice assistant and stain recognition. The P50 Ultra, the most basic version, does without some artificial intelligence technologies but maintains the fundamental cleaning performance.
Power and Suction
All three robots share the same suction power of 19,000 Pa, a level more than sufficient for medium-pile carpets and hard floors with ingrained dirt. However, the differences appear in the brushing system.
The Dreame L40 Ultra AE and Mova P50 Pro Ultra feature the TriCut 3.0 main brush, which combines bristles with blades to cut tangled hair. The Mova P50 Ultra is equipped with a simple brush, less effective for homes with pets where long hair can be a problem. All three models allow the main brush to be raised during mopping, preventing it from getting wet and ensuring cleaner mopping.
The biggest difference is in the side brush. The Mova P50 Pro Ultra incorporates an extendable, liftable and anti-tangle side brush, which significantly improves sweeping in corners and prevents it from tangling with cables or fringes. Additionally, it can be raised during mopping so as not to interfere. The L40 Ultra AE and P50 Ultra lack these functions, which limits their effectiveness in corners and may cause occasional tangles.
Mopping
The mopping system is practically identical in all three models: two rotating mops with side extension and Roboswing movement to reach edges and get under furniture overhangs. The mop lift reaches 10.5 mm in all cases, sufficient to climb onto thin carpets without wetting them.
The multifunction bases wash the mops with hot water at 65°C and dry them with hot air at 55°C, a process that eliminates bacteria and prevents bad odours. During cleaning, the robots return periodically to the base to wash the mops, ensuring they always mop with clean mops.
An important practical difference appears here: only the Mova P50 Pro Ultra can automatically remove the mops at the base when you only want to vacuum. This saves having to remove them manually, something that in practice is very convenient if you alternate between vacuuming and mopping according to needs.
Both the L40 Ultra AE and P50 Pro Ultra detect dirt on the mops and on the floor, which activates automatic re-mopping in dirtier areas. The P50 Ultra does not have this function, which may cause it to overlook difficult stains without insisting enough.
Navigation System
All three units use LiDAR turret with front 3D laser sensor to map and avoid obstacles. The main difference lies in the artificial intelligence and object recognition.
The Dreame L40 Ultra AE includes an AI camera that recognises up to 120 different objects, with remote access for surveillance and night vision LED. This allows it to identify toys, cables, slippers and other items, as well as recognising pets to adjust cleaning.
The Mova P50 Pro Ultra goes a step further with dual AI camera that recognises 160 obstacles, including curtains, something the L40 Ultra AE does not detect. It also incorporates front LED, remote camera access and AI stain recognition, an exclusive function that allows it to visually identify dirt on the floor and automatically re-mop it.
The Mova P50 Ultra does without AI camera, front LED and remote access. It also does not recognise pets or curtains, limiting itself to basic LiDAR navigation with 3D sensor. For homes without pets and with simple layout it may be sufficient, but in households with young children or animals, the lack of intelligent recognition may result in occasional jams.
Autonomy and Battery
The battery capacity is 5,200 mAh in all three models. We only know the autonomy of the Mova P50 Pro Ultra: 210 minutes, sufficient for homes of up to 200-250 m² in a single cycle. It is reasonable to assume that the L40 Ultra AE and P50 Ultra offer similar autonomy as they share battery and power, although we do not have the exact figure.
In practice, this capacity allows large flats to be cleaned without the need for intermediate recharges, automatically returning to the base only to wash the mops during mopping.
Smart Functions
The Mova P50 Pro Ultra can overcome obstacles of up to 22 mm, whilst the L40 Ultra AE remains at 20 mm. Although the difference is minimal, those additional 2 mm can make the difference with certain types of thick carpets or transitions between floors.
The most notable function of the P50 Pro Ultra is its own voice assistant, which allows commands to be given directly to the robot without needing to use the app or external assistants. All three models are compatible with Alexa and Google Home, but only the P50 Pro Ultra responds by itself.
Multifunction Cleaning Base
All three bases feature auto-emptying of the dust container into a 3.2-litre bag, mop washing with hot water at 65°C and drying with hot air at 55°C. They also include a detergent tank, although in the Mova P50 Ultra it is optional and must be purchased separately.
The self-cleaning of the washing tray differs between models. The L40 Ultra AE features a second-generation system, whilst the Mova P50 Pro Ultra and P50 Ultra incorporate the third generation, more efficient at preventing accumulated residue in the tray.
Regarding water capacities, the L40 Ultra AE has the largest clean water tank with 4.5 litres compared to the 4 litres of the Mova models. The dirty water tank of the L40 Ultra AE is 4 litres, whilst in the Mova models it is 3.5 litres. These differences are minimal in daily use, but in very large homes the L40 Ultra AE may require fewer refills.
Only the Dreame L40 Ultra AE offers an optional plumbing connection kit, which is purchased separately. Although it is not an integrated function, it may be interesting for those who prefer to avoid refilling and emptying tanks manually. The Mova models do not have this option.
Dimensions
The diameter of all three robots is identical: 350 mm. The height varies slightly: the L40 Ultra AE and P50 Ultra measure 97 mm, whilst the P50 Pro Ultra reaches 103.8 mm. Those almost 7 mm additional may make access under certain low furniture more difficult, although in most cases the difference is irrelevant.
The bases present more notable differences. The L40 Ultra AE base is narrower (340 mm compared to 420 mm) but considerably taller (590.5 mm compared to 470 mm). This may influence where to place the base: the L40 Ultra AE occupies less floor space but requires more clearance height, whilst the Mova bases are wider but lower, making it easier to position them under shelves or furniture.
Real-World User Experience
For homes with pets, the Mova P50 Pro Ultra is the most complete option thanks to its anti-tangle side brush, animal recognition and dual AI camera. The L40 Ultra AE also recognises pets and features the TriCut 3.0 brush, being a valid alternative. The P50 Ultra, without AI camera or pet recognition, may have more difficulties in these environments.
In large houses, all three models offer sufficient autonomy and tank capacity. The L40 Ultra AE has an advantage in clean water capacity and the possibility of adding the plumbing kit, although the latter requires additional investment.
For households with young children where there are scattered toys, the advanced object recognition of the P50 Pro Ultra (160 items) and its stain detection are especially useful. The L40 Ultra AE also performs well with its 120 recognised objects.
If you are looking for maximum autonomy without manual intervention, the P50 Pro Ultra stands out for being able to automatically remove the mops when you only want to vacuum, avoiding having to do it by hand each time.
Conclusion: Which One to Choose?
Choose the Dreame L40 Ultra AE if you are looking for a balance between price and performance, you value the possibility of adding plumbing connection in the future, you need greater water tank capacity and you prefer a narrower base although taller. It is ideal for medium-large homes without extreme artificial intelligence requirements.
Choose the Mova P50 Pro Ultra if you want the maximum technology available in these models: dual AI camera, recognition of 160 objects, stain detection, own voice assistant and automatic mop removal.
