Introduction

The Mova Z50 Ultra and the Xiaomi X20 Max represent two distinct generations in the evolution of robot vacuum cleaners with multifunctional base stations. The Mova model arrives in 2025 featuring advanced technology and a wide roller mopping system, whilst the Xiaomi X20 Max, launched in 2024, opts for the traditional twin rotating mop system. Both units include a multifunctional base station that washes and dries the mops, although differences in power, navigation and tank capacity mark quite distinct usage profiles.

The Mova Z50 Ultra is aimed at users seeking maximum suction power and latest-generation technology, especially useful in homes with pets or demanding cleaning requirements. The Xiaomi X20 Max, with a lower profile and extendable mopping system, is interesting for those who prioritise accessing under low furniture and maintaining a good level of performance without requiring maximum power.

Power and Suction

The most evident difference between these models appears in suction power. The Mova Z50 Ultra reaches 19,000 Pa, more than double the 8,000 Pa of the Xiaomi X20 Max. This difference is especially noticeable on carpets, pet hair and ingrained dirt. For homes with animals or medium-to-long pile carpets, the Mova's additional power makes a real difference to results.

Both feature the same TriCut 3.0 main brush, which combines bristles with blades designed to cut tangled hair. However, the Mova Z50 Ultra adds main brush lifting during mopping, something the Xiaomi doesn't incorporate. This allows the Mova to raise the brush when mopping, preventing it from getting wet and ensuring cleaner mopping without dragging dirt from the brush.

Regarding the side brush, the Mova includes three functions absent on the Xiaomi: extension to better reach corners, lifting during mopping and anti-tangle system. The Mova's extendable side brush deploys when detecting corners, improving perimeter sweeping. Side brush lifting during mopping prevents it from splashing dirty water, whilst the anti-tangle system facilitates maintenance. The Xiaomi X20 Max has a conventional side brush without these additional features.

Mopping

Here we find one of the most significant differences in cleaning philosophy. The Mova Z50 Ultra uses a 180 mm wide roller that mops through continuous rotation, similar to an electric mop. The Xiaomi X20 Max maintains the traditional twin circular rotating mop system. Both systems have advantages: the Mova's roller covers more surface area in one pass and applies more uniform pressure, whilst the Xiaomi's rotating mops allow greater lifting.

The Xiaomi lifts the mops up to 10 mm, exceeding the Mova's 7 mm. This can be useful for short-pile carpets, although in practice both systems allow passage over thin carpets. The Mova compensates with its mini side mop that better cleans edges, whilst the Xiaomi has mop extension to reach skirting boards.

A clear advantage of the Mova Z50 Ultra is mopping with hot water at 35ºC, both for cleaning the floor and for washing the mops in the base station. The Xiaomi X20 Max uses cold water. Hot water better dissolves grease and removes more difficult stains, improving results in kitchens or areas with adhered dirt.

The Mova also incorporates dirt detection on both the mops and the floor, automatically re-mopping the dirtiest areas. The Xiaomi lacks this function. In homes with young children or high-traffic areas, this ability to detect and re-clean stains automatically is very practical.

Navigation System

Both robots use a 3D LiDAR turret to map the home and a front 3D laser sensor to avoid obstacles. They also include LEDs for night vision. However, the Mova Z50 Ultra adds a dual AI camera that marks important differences in intelligence.

The Mova recognises up to 160 different types of obstacles, including pets and curtains. This capability allows it to adapt its behaviour: it detects pets and avoids them carefully, identifies curtains and reduces speed to avoid tangling. The Xiaomi X20 Max lacks an AI camera and doesn't specify how many obstacles it recognises, limiting itself to the front 3D laser sensor.

The Mova's dual camera also allows remote access for home surveillance, a function the Xiaomi doesn't offer. You can see in real time what the robot is doing or use the camera as a basic video surveillance system when you're away from home.

The Mova's CleanGenius AI system uses the camera to recognise stains and automatically adjust suction power and mopping pattern. The Xiaomi X20 Max also has AI intelligent cleaning, although without visual stain recognition as it lacks a camera.

Autonomy and Battery

The Mova Z50 Ultra features a 6,400 mAh battery, superior to the Xiaomi X20 Max's 5,200 mAh. This greater capacity partly compensates for the additional consumption of 19,000 Pa of power. The Xiaomi specifies 120 minutes of autonomy, data that the Mova doesn't detail, although its larger battery suggests similar or superior autonomy.

In practice, both robots automatically return to the base station when the battery is low and resume cleaning where they left off. For homes of up to 150-200 m², either completes cleaning without problems. In larger houses, the Mova's additional battery can reduce the number of intermediate recharges.

Smart Functions

The Mova Z50 Ultra overcomes obstacles up to 22 mm in height, compared to the Xiaomi X20 Max's 20 mm. Two millimetres may seem irrelevant, but they make the difference with some door profiles or thick carpets. Both figures are amongst the best on the market and allow most common household obstacles to be overcome.

The Mova includes its own voice assistant integrated into the robot, in addition to compatibility with Alexa and Google Home. You can give it commands directly without going through the app or external speakers. The Xiaomi X20 Max only offers compatibility with external assistants, without its own integrated voice.

Multifunctional Cleaning Base Station

Both base stations perform auto-emptying of the dust bin, washing and drying of mops. Both wash the mops with hot water and dry them with hot air, essential functions for keeping the mops clean and avoiding bad odours.

Differences appear in capacities and additional functions. The Mova's dust bag has 4 litres compared to the Xiaomi's 2.5 litres, which means fewer bag changes. The Mova's clean water tank reaches 4.5 litres (4 litres on the Xiaomi) and the dirty water tank 4 litres (3.8 on the Xiaomi). These differences are noticeable in large homes: the Mova mops more surface area before needing to refill clean water or empty dirty water.

Only the Mova Z50 Ultra incorporates a detergent tank in the base station, automatically dispensing product during mop washing. The Xiaomi doesn't include this function. Whilst not essential, detergent improves mopping results and simplifies maintenance by not having to add it manually.

Neither includes self-cleaning of the washing tray, UV disinfection nor connection to water pipes. Neither do they offer an optional kit for connection to pipes.

Dimensions

Both robots share the same diameter of 350 mm, but differ notably in height. The Xiaomi X20 Max measures 97 mm tall, whilst the Mova Z50 Ultra reaches 111 mm. This 14 mm difference can be decisive for passing under certain furniture, sofas or low beds. If you have furniture with less than 11 cm of clearance, the Xiaomi will access where the Mova cannot.

The base stations also present different dimensions. The Mova's measures 390 mm wide, 545 mm tall and 463.3 mm deep. The Xiaomi's is narrower (340 mm) and less deep (420 mm), although slightly taller (563 mm). The Xiaomi's base station occupies less floor space, useful if you have little room to position it.

Real-World Usage Experience

For large homes of more than 120 m², the Mova Z50 Ultra offers clear advantages: greater base station tank capacity, larger battery and superior power that speeds up cleaning. The automatic detergent tank and dirt detection reduce manual intervention.

In homes with pets, the Mova stands out for its 19,000 Pa power, animal recognition via AI camera and anti-tangle side brush. The double power compared to the Xiaomi makes a real difference when vacuuming hair ingrained in carpets or upholstery.

If you have low furniture or beds with little clearance, the Xiaomi X20 Max's 97 mm profile is more versatile than the Mova's 111 mm. This difference can determine whether or not the robot accesses under certain furniture in your home.

The Mova's hot water mopping improves results in kitchens and areas with grease or adhered stains. The Xiaomi, with cold water, offers good results in daily maintenance but may fall short with more difficult dirt.

The Mova's camera with remote access adds surveillance functionality that may interest those who value monitoring the home or pets when they're away. The Xiaomi lacks this option.

Conclusion: Which to Choose?

Choose the Mova Z50 Ultra if... you have a large home, live with pets, seek maximum suction power and prefer latest-generation technology. Its dual AI camera, hot water mopping, automatic detergent tank and greater tank capacity make it a very complete option for those seeking total autonomy and professional results. Pet and stain recognition, together with 19,000 Pa of power, justify the choice if deep cleaning is a priority and you don't have height problems under furniture.

Choose the Xiaomi X20 Max if... you need a robot that passes under low furniture (its 97 mm height is key here), you have a medium-sized home and don't require maximum suction power. It offers a good balance between features and compact dimensions, with a multifunctional base station that washes and dries mops with hot water. Its twin extendable mop system mops edges well and the 10 mm lifting works correctly with thin carpets. It's a solid option for daily maintenance in homes without pets or special power requirements, especially if space under furniture is limited.
