Introduction
We're looking at two high-end robots launched at different times: the Mova E40 Ultra, which arrives on the market in 2025, and the Xiaomi X20 Max, introduced in 2024. Both units feature a multifunction base that washes and dries the mops automatically, which guarantees effective mopping without constant manual intervention. The Mova model belongs to a brand manufactured by Dreame, whilst the X20 Max forms part of the Xiaomi ecosystem, known for its good balance between features and price.
These robots are designed for users seeking total autonomy in daily cleaning. The presence of bases with large-capacity tanks and automatic washing systems makes them suitable options for medium or large-sized homes, especially if there are pets or frequent mopping is needed.
Power and Suction
The most striking difference between these two models appears in suction power. The Mova E40 Ultra offers 19000 Pa Turbo, a figure that more than doubles the Xiaomi X20 Max's 8000 Pa. In practice, this translates to greater capacity to drag embedded dirt from carpets or pick up heavier debris such as sand or gravel.
Regarding the main brushing system, the approach is different. The Xiaomi X20 Max incorporates the TriCut 3.0 brush as standard, which combines bristles with blades to cut hair and reduce tangles. The Mova E40 Ultra comes with a simple brush, although it allows an anti-tangle system to be attached if needed. This flexibility can prove useful for homes without pets that don't require that function constantly.
The anti-tangle side brush is only present on the Mova E40 Ultra. This helps prevent long hairs or fibres from wrapping around the side, something common in homes with animals. Neither model features an extendable or liftable side brush during mopping, functions that do appear on other higher-end units.
Mopping
Both robots use two rotating mops and feature extension to better reach edges. The Mova E40 Ultra also incorporates the Roboswing 3.0 system, which performs a lateral movement to get the mop under overhangs and low furniture. The Xiaomi X20 Max also has mop extension, although it doesn't specify the system version.
Mop lift is practically identical: 10.5 mm on the E40 Ultra and 10 mm on the X20 Max. Sufficient to pass over thin carpets without wetting them and move between mopping and vacuuming zones without dragging moisture.
Where things change is in washing and drying. The Xiaomi X20 Max washes the mops with hot water, which improves the removal of grease and adhered dirt. The Mova E40 Ultra uses cold water for washing. However, the Mova's drying reaches 45°C, a specific temperature that speeds up the process and prevents bad odours. The Xiaomi dries with hot air, although the exact temperature isn't detailed.
Neither allows leaving the mops at the base to perform vacuuming only, nor detects dirt on the mops or floor to automatically reinforce mopping. These are functions that are starting to appear on more recent models, but aren't available here.
Navigation System
Both units mount a Lidar 3D turret to map the home with precision. They also share a front 3D laser sensor, which helps detect low obstacles and avoid collisions. Neither incorporates an artificial intelligence camera, which limits advanced recognition of specific objects.
The Mova E40 Ultra includes pet recognition, a useful function if there are animals at home, as the robot can identify them and adjust its behaviour. The Xiaomi X20 Max doesn't have this capability, although it does feature night vision LED, which improves obstacle detection in low-light conditions.
Both models integrate intelligent cleaning via AI: the Mova uses CleanGenius and the Xiaomi its own system. These functions analyse the type of dirt and adjust cleaning parameters automatically. There's no remote camera access on either, as they don't mount a front camera.
Autonomy and Battery
Battery capacity is identical: 5200 mAh on both robots. However, the declared autonomy differs considerably. The Mova E40 Ultra reaches 210 minutes of continuous operation, compared to the Xiaomi X20 Max's 120 minutes. This 90-minute difference can make a difference in large homes or when complete cleaning of several floors is scheduled.
With 210 minutes, the E40 Ultra can cover large surfaces without needing to return to recharge mid-session. The X20 Max, with two hours of autonomy, remains sufficient for medium-sized flats, although in homes over 150 square metres it may need intermediate recharging if simultaneous mopping and vacuuming are activated.
Smart Functions
Both robots can overcome obstacles up to 20 mm in height, which allows them to move between rooms with small level changes or pass thick cables without getting stuck. Neither incorporates a robotic arm nor its own voice assistant, functions that are starting to appear on higher-end models but aren't present here.
Multifunction Cleaning Base
Both bases feature automatic mop washing and drying systems. The Mova E40 Ultra mounts a second-generation tray self-cleaning system, which helps keep the base more hygienic with less manual intervention. The Xiaomi X20 Max doesn't specify a tray self-cleaning system.
Dust bag capacity is larger on the Mova: 3.2 litres compared to the Xiaomi's 2.5 litres. This means fewer manual emptyings throughout the month. The clean water tank is also more generous on the E40 Ultra, with 4.5 litres versus the X20 Max's 4 litres. The Mova also specifies a 4-litre dirty water tank, data that doesn't appear for the Xiaomi.
Neither model includes a detergent tank, UV disinfection nor plumbing connection. Nor do they offer an optional kit to connect to the water mains, so filling and emptying tanks must be done manually.
Dimensions
The diameter and height of the robots are identical: 350 mm diameter and 97 mm height. This means both can pass under furniture with the same clearance, provided there's at least 10 centimetres of free space.
The bases present slight differences. The Mova E40 Ultra measures 590.5 mm in height and 456.7 mm in depth, whilst the Xiaomi X20 Max has 563 mm in height and 420 mm in depth. The Mova's base takes up slightly more space, especially in depth, which should be considered if the available space is tight.
Real-world experience
The Mova E40 Ultra stands out for its suction power and autonomy. With 19000 Pa and 210 minutes of battery, it's suitable for large homes with thick carpets or high-traffic areas. The 3.2-litre dust bag and more generous water tanks reduce maintenance frequency. Pet recognition adds a bonus if there are animals at home, although the simple main brush may require attaching the anti-tangle system if there's long hair.
The Xiaomi X20 Max opts for washing mops with hot water, which improves cleaning of floors with grease or adhered dirt. The TriCut 3.0 brush as standard facilitates maintenance in homes with pets. The 120-minute autonomy is sufficient for flats up to 100-120 square metres. The night vision LED can be useful if the robot cleans at night or in poorly lit areas. The somewhat more compact base makes it easier to position in reduced spaces.
Conclusion: Which to choose?
Choose the Mova E40 Ultra if you live in a large house, have thick carpets or need maximum autonomy without intermediate recharges. The 19000 Pa power and 210 minutes of battery make it the most powerful option. The larger dust bag and higher-capacity water tanks reduce maintenance. If there are pets and you value specific animal recognition, this model includes it.
Choose the Xiaomi X20 Max if you prioritise washing mops with hot water to better remove grease from floors. The TriCut 3.0 brush as standard facilitates use in homes with hair without needing to attach additional components. The more compact base fits better in tight spaces. If the robot cleans at night or in dark areas, the night vision LED improves obstacle detection. For medium-sized flats, the 120-minute autonomy is sufficient and the price is usually more competitive as it's a 2024 model.
