Introduction

Dreame and Roborock present three high-end models in 2025 that compete directly in the premium market segment. The Dreame L40s Pro Ultra and the Dreame X50 Ultra Blanca share the Chinese brand's design philosophy, whilst the Roborock Saros Z70 introduces innovations that clearly differentiate it from its competitors.

These three units are designed for medium and large homes seeking to fully automate cleaning tasks. All include a multifunction base with mop washing and drying, advanced navigation systems and mopping capabilities with edge extension. The choice between them will depend on specific priorities: robot height, tank capacity, suction power or specific functions such as the robotic arm.

Power and Suction

Suction power marks significant differences. The Roborock Saros Z70 leads with 22,000 Pa, followed by the Dreame X50 Ultra with 20,000 Pa and the L40s Pro Ultra with 19,000 Pa. This difference can be particularly noticeable on medium or long pile carpets, where the capacity to extract embedded dirt is decisive.

All three models feature a liftable main brush for mopping and an extendable side brush that improves cleaning in corners. All are anti-tangle, an important feature for homes with pets or people with long hair. The Dreame L40s Pro Ultra and X50 Ultra use a HyperStream dual brush system, whilst the Saros Z70 mounts an anti-tangle brush of its own design.

The side brush also lifts in mopping mode on all three units, preventing it from interfering with the wet mops.

Mopping

All incorporate a two rotating mop system with edge extension. The Dreame L40s Pro Ultra and X50 Ultra also include the Roboswing system, which allows the robot to make a lateral movement to introduce the mop under furniture or overhangs.

Mop lift varies: the Roborock Saros Z70 reaches between 12 and 22 mm, compared to 10.5 mm for the two Dreame models. This greater lift is useful in homes with high pile carpets or thick doormats, allowing the robot to move without wetting textile surfaces.

An important difference lies in the water temperature for mopping the floor. The Saros Z70 uses warm water, whilst the Dreame models use cold water. Warm water improves the dissolution of grease and adhered stains, especially in kitchens.

All three allow the mops to be automatically removed at the base when only vacuuming is desired, and all detect dirt both on the mops and on the floor to adjust the cleaning process.

Navigation System

The Dreame L40s Pro Ultra mounts a traditional LiDAR turret, the X50 Ultra incorporates retractable LiDAR and the Roborock Saros Z70 uses the StarSight 2.0 system. All three feature dual camera with artificial intelligence and front 3D laser sensor for obstacle avoidance.

The number of recognised obstacles differs notably: the Dreame X50 Ultra identifies up to 200 objects, the L40s Pro Ultra reaches 180 and the Saros Z70 stops at 108. In practice, this translates to greater precision in dodging toys, cables, slippers or small items scattered on the floor.

The Dreame models detect curtains and adjust their behaviour to avoid tangling, a function that does not appear in the Saros Z70. All recognise pets and allow remote access to the camera with LED for night vision.

The Saros Z70 processor uses the RR Mason 12.0 algorithm, whilst the X50 Ultra incorporates AI Sage 13.0. The L40s Pro Ultra does not specify the exact processor, although it does include the CleanGenius intelligent cleaning system.

Autonomy and Battery

Battery capacity favours the Roborock Saros Z70 and the Dreame X50 Ultra, with 6,400 mAh each, compared to 5,200 mAh for the L40s Pro Ultra. However, the declared autonomy shows that the L40s Pro Ultra reaches 220 minutes, whilst the X50 Ultra achieves 180 minutes. The Saros Z70 does not specify autonomy in minutes.

This difference can be explained by the efficiency of the navigation system and energy management. For homes over 150 square metres, it is worth considering this data, especially if the layout includes multiple rooms requiring several complete cleaning cycles.

Smart Functions

All three models overcome simple steps, facilitating movement between rooms with small level changes or flooring transitions.

The major difference is marked by the OmniGrip robotic arm of the Roborock Saros Z70, absent in the two Dreame models. This arm allows the robot to manipulate light objects, such as picking up socks or moving small obstacles during cleaning. For homes with young children who leave toys scattered about, this function can prove practical.

All include their own voice assistant and compatibility with Alexa and Google Home.

Multifunction Cleaning Base

All three bases perform auto-emptying of the dust bin, washing and drying of mops with hot air. The Dreame models use third-generation tray self-cleaning, whilst the Saros Z70 mounts version 2.0.

The Dreame X50 Ultra incorporates UV disinfection in the base, a feature not included in either the L40s Pro Ultra or the Saros Z70. This function may interest homes with allergies or particular concern for hygiene.

Dust bag capacity varies: the Dreame models offer 3.2 litres compared to 2.5 litres for the Roborock. The clean water tank reaches 4.5 litres in the Dreame models and 4 litres in the Saros Z70. The dirty water tank is 4 litres in the Dreame models and 3 litres in the Roborock.

The Dreame models allow purchase of an optional kit for plumbing connection, an option not offered by the Saros Z70. This accessory is purchased separately and automates water filling and emptying, although its installation requires minor building work.

Dimensions

Robot height is decisive for accessing under furniture. The Roborock Saros Z70 measures just 79.8 mm, well below the 89 mm of the Dreame X50 Ultra and especially the 103.8 mm of the L40s Pro Ultra. In homes with low beds, sofas with little clearance from the floor or kitchen units with reduced plinths, this difference determines which areas the robot can clean autonomously.

The diameter is practically identical: 350 mm for the Dreame models and 353 mm for the Roborock.

The bases of the Dreame models measure 340 mm wide, 590.5 mm high and 456.7 mm deep. The Saros Z70 base is wider (381 mm) and deeper (475 mm), but less tall (488 mm). It is advisable to measure the available space before deciding, especially if the base will be located in a cupboard or specific recess.

Real-World Usage Experience

For homes with low furniture, the Roborock Saros Z70 offers a clear advantage thanks to its 79.8 mm height. It will access spaces inaccessible to the other two models, reducing the need to move furniture manually.

In homes with pets, the greater suction power of the Saros Z70 (22,000 Pa) and the anti-tangle systems of all three units guarantee good results. The larger dust bin of the Dreame models (3.2 litres in the base) reduces the frequency of bag changes.

For large houses, the 220-minute autonomy of the L40s Pro Ultra can make a difference, although the 6,400 mAh battery of the X50 Ultra and Saros Z70 compensates with greater charging capacity.

The warm water mopping of the Saros Z70 is more effective in kitchens with adhered grease. The Dreame models compensate with the Roboswing system to better reach under furniture and the X50 Ultra adds UV disinfection.

The robotic arm of the Saros Z70 can simplify life in homes where objects are usually scattered about, although it does not replace tidying up before cleaning.

Conclusion: Which to Choose?

Choose the Dreame L40s Pro Ultra if you prioritise extended autonomy (220 minutes), need large water and dust tanks, and value the Roboswing system for mopping under furniture. It is a good option for spacious homes without height restrictions under furniture.

Choose the Roborock Saros Z70 if your home has low furniture requiring a robot with low height (79.8 mm), you seek maximum suction power (22,000 Pa), you value mopping with warm water and you are interested in the robotic arm for manipulating small objects. Ideal for homes with children or complex layouts.

Choose the Dreame X50 Ultra Blanca if you need the greatest obstacle recognition (200 objects), you value UV disinfection in the base, you want a 6,400 mAh battery with contained height (89 mm) and you are interested in the plumbing connection option. Recommended for homes with allergies, pets and concern for maximum hygiene.
