Introduction

Dreame has launched two high-end proposals that compete directly with the best options on the market in 2025. The Dreame L40s Pro Ultra arrived first, establishing itself as a complete model with dual AI camera and advanced recognition functions. Just a few months later, in March 2026, the brand presents the Dreame L50 Ultra AE, a version that raises suction power to record levels but dispenses with some artificial intelligence functions. Xiaomi, which shares manufacturing lines with Dreame on many of its models, offers the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro as a balanced alternative between both extremes.

We are looking at three robot vacuum cleaners with complete multifunction base, designed for users seeking total mopping automation and minimal maintenance. The differences between them are not just about raw power, but about approach: advanced intelligence versus extreme suction capacity, or balance between both characteristics.

Power and Suction

The most striking difference in this robot vacuum cleaner comparison is in suction power. The Dreame L50 Ultra AE marks a milestone with 28,000 Pa, a figure that far exceeds the 19,000 Pa of the L40s Pro Ultra and the 20,000 Pa of the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro. In homes with long-pile carpets or pets that shed a lot of hair, this difference can translate into visibly better results.

The main brush system varies between models. The L40s Pro Ultra opts for a double brush, whilst both the L50 Ultra AE and the Xiaomi mount the TriCut 3.0 system, which combines bristles with blades to reduce hair tangles. All three units lift the main brush during mopping to avoid dragging wet dirt.

On the side brush, the L40s Pro Ultra stands out with automatic lifting during mopping, a function absent in the other two models. This prevents the side brush from interfering with the mops or splashing dirty water. All three robots extend the side brush to improve corner cleaning and feature anti-tangle design.

Mopping

All three models mount a two rotating mop system, the current standard for effective mopping. The Dreame L40s Pro Ultra and the L50 Ultra AE include the Roboswing system, which allows the robot to make a lateral movement to introduce the mop under furniture and ledges. The Xiaomi also extends the mops for edges, although without specifying the specific system.

Mop lifting marks an important difference. The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro reaches 15 mm in height, compared to the 10.5 mm of the Dreame models. For homes with medium-pile carpets, those extra millimetres can make the difference between brushing the carpet or passing over it cleanly.

Both Dreame robots allow automatic removal of the mops at the base when you only want to vacuum, a function that the Xiaomi does not offer. In dirt detection, the L40s Pro Ultra and the Xiaomi identify both dirt on the mops and on the floor to adjust mopping, whilst the L50 Ultra AE lacks these sensors. In practice, this means that the L50 Ultra AE always mops with the same parameters, without adapting intensity or passes.

Navigation System

The Dreame L40s Pro Ultra mounts a particularly complete navigation system: LiDAR turret combined with dual AI camera and front 3D laser sensor. This configuration allows it to recognise up to 180 different types of obstacles, including pets and curtains, adapting its behaviour according to what it detects. Additionally, it offers remote access to the camera and LED for night vision.

The Dreame L50 Ultra AE simplifies the system: it maintains the LiDAR turret and the front 3D laser sensor, but eliminates the AI camera. Without it, it cannot recognise pets or curtains, nor does it offer remote access or front LED. Navigation remains precise for mapping and avoiding basic obstacles, but loses specific recognition capability.

The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro integrates retractable LiDAR with AI camera and 3D laser sensor. It recognises up to 200 types of obstacles, features remote camera access and night vision LED. However, it does not specify pet or curtain recognition as highlighted functions.

Autonomy and Battery

All three robots mount a 5,200 mAh battery, but the declared autonomy varies. The Dreame L40s Pro Ultra reaches 220 minutes of operation, the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro stays at 140 minutes, and for the L50 Ultra AE no specific figure is specified. The difference between 220 and 140 minutes can be decisive in homes of more than 150 square metres, where the robot needs to complete several rooms without returning to charge.

Smart Functions

All three models overcome 20 mm thresholds, although the Dreame L40s Pro Ultra specifies capacity for simple thresholds without detailing exact height. In homes with level differences between rooms or transitions to terraces, this capability is fundamental.

The L40s Pro Ultra incorporates its own voice assistant, in addition to compatibility with Alexa and Google Home. The other two models only offer integration with external assistants. None of the three robots includes a robotic arm.

Multifunction Cleaning Base

All three bases offer complete functions: auto-emptying of the dust bin, mop washing with hot water and drying with hot air. This equipment ensures that the mops are washed during mopping and dried afterwards to prevent bad odours.

The Dreame L40s Pro Ultra and the L50 Ultra AE include third-generation tray self-cleaning and detergent tank. The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro lacks a detergent tank, which requires manually adding product if you wish to enhance mopping.

In capacities, the Dreame models offer a 3.2-litre dust bag, 4.5-litre clean water tank and 4-litre dirty water tank. The Xiaomi reduces slightly: 2.5-litre bag, 4 litres of clean water and 3.8 of dirty water. For large homes, those extra 700 ml of bag can mean one more week between emptying.

Both Dreame robots allow purchasing an optional kit to connect the base to plumbing, automating water filling and emptying. The Xiaomi does not offer this option. It should be remembered that this kit is purchased separately and requires installation.

Dimensions

The robot's height determines its ability to slip under furniture. The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro measures 88 mm, the Dreame L50 Ultra AE reaches 97 mm and the L40s Pro Ultra reaches 103.8 mm. If you have sofas or beds with less than 10 cm of clearance, only the Xiaomi will be able to access.

All three robots share a 350 mm diameter. The bases have similar dimensions: the Dreame models measure 340 mm wide, 590 mm high and 457 mm deep, whilst the Xiaomi reaches 360 mm wide, 572 mm high and 470 mm deep. The differences are minimal and do not significantly affect the space required.

Real-World Usage Experience

For homes with pets, the Dreame L40s Pro Ultra offers clear advantages: it recognises animals, adjusts its behaviour to avoid disturbing them and allows monitoring them via remote camera access. Its dual AI camera also detects curtains, avoiding tangles. However, its greater height limits access under low furniture.

The Dreame L50 Ultra AE focuses on pure power. With 28,000 Pa, it vacuums more deeply on carpets and drags embedded dirt better. By lacking an AI camera, it loses specific recognition functions, but maintains precise navigation and basic obstacle avoidance. It is the option for those who prioritise vacuuming results over artificial intelligence.

The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro balances power (20,000 Pa), reduced height (88 mm) and complete AI functions. Its 15 mm mop lifting better protects carpets during mopping. The absence of a detergent tank in the base may be a minor inconvenience if you prefer to manually control the cleaning product.

In large homes, the L40s Pro Ultra offers 220 minutes of autonomy compared to the Xiaomi's 140, a difference that is noticeable on surfaces exceeding 150 square metres. The 3.2-litre bag capacity in the Dreame models also reduces maintenance frequency.

Conclusion: Which One to Choose?

Choose the Dreame L40s Pro Ultra if you have pets and value intelligent recognition, want remote camera access for surveillance, need extended autonomy for large homes and do not have very low furniture. Its dual AI camera and own voice assistant make it the best robot vacuum cleaner 2025 for complete automation.

Choose the Dreame L50 Ultra AE if you seek the maximum available suction power, have thick carpets or pets that shed a lot of hair, and do not need advanced AI functions such as pet recognition or remote access. It is the most powerful option in pure vacuuming.

Choose the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro if you need a robot that passes under low furniture, value maximum mop lifting to protect carpets, seek balance between power and AI intelligence, and prefer to add detergent manually. Its 88 mm height and 15 mm mop lifting make it especially versatile for homes with low furniture and medium-pile carpets.
