Introduction
Dreame presents three consecutive generations of robot vacuum cleaners with multifunctional base stations that demonstrate how the technology has evolved in barely two years. The Dreame L10s Ultra Gen 2 arrived in 2024 as a solid mid-to-high-range model, whilst the Dreame L40 Ultra AE from 2025 incorporates improvements focused on artificial intelligence and mop washing. The Dreame L50 Ultra AE, launched in 2026, represents the most ambitious leap with record suction power and new maintenance solutions.
All three share the same multifunctional base station with auto-emptying, mop washing and drying, but the differences in power, navigation and cleaning systems define distinct user profiles. We're talking about equipment designed for homes seeking total automation, although each one excels in different aspects depending on household needs.
Power and Suction
The evolution in suction power is the most evident change. The Dreame L10s Ultra Gen 2 offers 10,000 Pa, a decent figure for most homes with hard floors and thin carpets. The jump to the Dreame L40 Ultra AE almost doubles this figure to 19,000 Pa, which notably improves pickup capacity on medium-pile carpets. The Dreame L50 Ultra AE reaches 28,000 Pa, a power that few models on the market match and which is especially useful in homes with thick carpets or pets that shed a lot of hair.
The brushing system also changes. The Gen 2 features a simple silicone brush, effective for avoiding basic tangles but less versatile on floors with different types of dirt. The L40 and L50 incorporate the TriCut 3.0 brush, which combines bristles with blades to cut long hairs and reduce tangles more efficiently. Additionally, these two models can lift the main brush during mopping, preventing wet dirt from adhering to the bristles.
As for the side brush, only the Dreame L50 Ultra AE includes an extendable and anti-tangle version. This detail makes a difference in cleaning corners and skirting boards, where the brush extends to reach areas that the other models don't cover as well. For homes with long-haired pets, this function can considerably reduce manual maintenance.
Mopping
All three robots use two rotating mops at 180 RPM with RoboSwing system, which allows an extension movement to better reach edges. Mop lifting is identical in all: 10.5 mm, sufficient to pass over thin carpets without wetting them.
The differences appear in the mop washing at the base station. The Dreame L10s Ultra Gen 2 washes with cold water, which limits the ability to remove grease or adhered dirt. The Dreame L40 Ultra AE raises the temperature to 75°C, improving hygiene and effectiveness on difficult stains. The Dreame L50 Ultra AE reaches 100°C, the maximum available in the Dreame range, ideal for homes where disinfection is a priority or there are pets.
Washing tray self-cleaning isn't present in the Gen 2 either, which requires manual cleaning from time to time to avoid bad odours. The L40 incorporates the second generation of this system and the L50 the third, which further reduces maintenance. Only the Dreame L50 Ultra AE allows automatic mop removal at the base station when you want to vacuum without mopping, a convenience that the other two don't offer.
The Dreame L40 Ultra AE stands out with dirt detection on both the mops and the floor, adjusting the number of passes or returning to the base to wash the mops if it detects they're very dirty. This function doesn't appear in the Gen 2 or the L50, which is curious considering it's the most recent model.
Navigation System
All three models feature 360° LiDAR turret and front 3D laser sensor to avoid obstacles, a combination that guarantees precise mapping and smooth navigation in complex environments.
The Dreame L40 Ultra AE incorporates an AI camera with remote access and night vision LED, allowing you to monitor the home from the app and recognise up to 120 types of obstacles. It also identifies pets, as does the Gen 2, although the latter doesn't have a camera or remote access. The Dreame L50 Ultra AE does without a camera and doesn't recognise pets, something surprising in a 2026 model, although it maintains the 3D laser sensor for obstacle avoidance.
The CleanGenius 2.0 system, which automatically adjusts power and mopping according to the type of floor and detected dirt, is present in the Gen 2 and the L40. The L50 doesn't include it, which may indicate a more manual approach or a commitment to other technologies not reflected in the table.
Autonomy and Battery
Battery capacity is identical in all three: 5,200 mAh. The Dreame L10s Ultra Gen 2 declares 240 minutes of autonomy, sufficient for homes of up to 200-250 m² in standard mode. Autonomy data for the L40 and L50 don't appear in the table, although the higher suction power of these models will probably reduce continuous running time if used in maximum modes.
In practice, the multifunctional base station allows the robot to manage charging autonomously, returning to complete cleaning if the battery runs out mid-task. This behaviour is common to all three.
Smart Functions
All three robots can overcome obstacles up to 20 mm, which allows them to pass over thick carpets, door guides or small level changes without getting stuck.
None of the three includes a robotic arm or its own voice assistant, but all are compatible with Alexa and Google Home for external voice control.
Multifunctional Cleaning Base Station
The base station is practically identical in dimensions: 340 mm wide, around 590 mm high and 457 mm deep. All include auto-emptying with 3.2-litre bag, 4.5-litre clean water tank, 4-litre dirty water tank and detergent compartment.
Mop drying works with hot air at 45°C in all three cases, effective for avoiding bad odours. The differences are in mop washing and tray self-cleaning, as already mentioned. None has integrated plumbing connection, although all three support an optional kit purchased separately to automate water filling and emptying.
Dimensions
The robot measures 350 mm in diameter and 97 mm in height in all three models. This height allows them to pass under most standard furniture, although it's advisable to measure beforehand if there are very low sofas or beds.
The robot's dust bin varies: 300 ml in the Gen 2, 395 ml in the L40 and 250 ml in the L50. The L40 offers more internal capacity, which may slightly reduce the frequency of emptying at the base station, although with auto-emptying this difference is hardly relevant. The water tank is 80 ml in all three.
Real-world usage experience
The Dreame L10s Ultra Gen 2 works well in medium-sized homes without thick carpets or long-haired pets. The 10,000 Pa power and simple silicone brush perform adequately on hard floors, although cold water washing and the lack of tray self-cleaning require somewhat more manual attention.
The Dreame L40 Ultra AE improves on almost everything: more power, TriCut 3.0 brush, 75°C washing, camera with remote access and dirt detection. It's the most complete for those seeking artificial intelligence applied to cleaning, especially if there are pets and you value being able to monitor the house from the app. The larger dust bin also helps in homes with heavy traffic.
The Dreame L50 Ultra AE opts for brute power and 100°C washing, ideal for homes that prioritise disinfection and have thick carpets. The extendable and anti-tangle side brush improves corner cleaning, and automatic mop removal simplifies use when you only want to vacuum. However, the absence of camera, pet recognition and CleanGenius 2.0 is striking. The smaller dust bin (250 ml) may be a minor inconvenience in very large houses.
Conclusion: Which one to choose?
Choose the Dreame L10s Ultra Gen 2 if you're looking for a robot with multifunctional base station at a more competitive price and your home doesn't exceed 150 m². It works well on hard floors and thin carpets, although cold water washing and tray maintenance require somewhat more involvement. It's sufficient for homes without long-haired pets or thick carpets.
Choose the Dreame L40 Ultra AE if you want the most complete balance between power, artificial intelligence and reduced maintenance. The camera with remote access, recognition of 120 obstacles, dirt detection and 75°C washing make it the most versatile option for homes with pets, young children or surveillance needs. The 395 ml dust bin also helps in large houses.
Choose the Dreame L50 Ultra AE if the absolute priority is suction power and disinfection through 100°C washing. It's the most suitable robot for thick carpets, homes with lots of dust or allergy sufferers who value maximum hygiene. The extendable side brush improves edge cleaning and automatic mop removal simplifies day-to-day use. That said, you'll have to do without the camera and AI functions present in the L40, which may be an inconvenience if there are also pets at home.
