Introduction

In this robot vacuum cleaner comparison, we analyse two latest-generation models from Dreame launched in 2025: the Dreame L40 Ultra AE and the Dreame L50 Pro Ultra. Both belong to the brand's premium range and share many advanced features, but present technical differences that may prove decisive depending on each household's needs.

The Dreame L40 Ultra AE positions itself as a complete and powerful robot vacuum cleaner, whilst the Dreame L50 Pro Ultra represents the technological evolution with improvements in navigation, autonomy and intelligent functions. Throughout this analysis, we'll discover which is better according to the type of home and each user's expectations.

Power and Suction

In terms of suction power, the Dreame L50 Pro Ultra offers 19500 Pa in Turbo mode, slightly higher than the 19000 Pa of the Dreame L40 Ultra AE. Although the difference isn't enormous, it may be noticeable on thick carpets or when capturing ingrained dirt.

Both models feature an anti-tangle main brush fitted as standard and liftable, which allows it to raise automatically when the robot is only mopping, avoiding unnecessarily wetting the brush. However, there's an important difference in the side brush: the Dreame L50 Pro Ultra incorporates an extendable, anti-tangle and liftable side brush, whilst the Dreame L40 Ultra AE doesn't have these advanced functions in the side brush. This feature of the L50 Pro Ultra allows better sweeping of corners and raises the brush during mopping so as not to hinder wet cleaning.

Regarding the main brush, the Dreame L40 Ultra AE mounts the TriCut 3.0 system, whilst the Dreame L50 Pro Ultra uses a double anti-tangle brush, both designed to maximise hair collection and prevent tangles.

Mopping

The mopping system is one of the strong points shared by both Dreame robot vacuum cleaners. Both models use two rotating mop pads that guarantee deep cleaning of hard floors. Additionally, both feature mop extension 3.0 with RoboSwing technology, an oscillating movement that allows the robot to introduce the mop pads a few centimetres under furniture and edges, reaching areas that other robots cannot clean.

Mop pad lifting is identical in both models: 10.5 mm, sufficient to travel over carpets without wetting them when the robot switches from vacuuming to mopping mode. Both wash the mop pads at 75°C and dry them at 45°C in the base, effectively eliminating bacteria and bad odours.

The main difference in this section lies in the ability to remove the mop pads at the base: the Dreame L50 Pro Ultra can leave the mop pads at the station and go out solely to vacuum, a function that the Dreame L40 Ultra AE doesn't possess. This proves very practical if you only need to vacuum without mopping on certain occasions.

Both robots feature dirt detection on the mop pads and on the floor, automatically adjusting the intensity and repetitions of mopping according to the level of dirt detected.

Navigation System

Here we find notable differences between both models. The Dreame L40 Ultra AE uses a traditional 3D Lidar turret, whilst the Dreame L50 Pro Ultra incorporates a retractable Lidar system that reduces the robot's height, allowing it to access under lower furniture.

In terms of artificial intelligence, the Dreame L50 Pro Ultra features dual AI camera and the powerful AI Sage 13.0 Octa-core processor, capable of recognising up to 180 different types of obstacles. For its part, the Dreame L40 Ultra AE mounts a simple AI camera and recognises 120 obstacles, a figure also very respectable but lower.

Both robots feature a front 3D laser sensor, pet recognition, remote camera access and front LED to improve object detection in low-light conditions. The Dreame L50 Pro Ultra additionally adds specific curtain detection and stain recognition via AI, functions absent in the L40 Ultra AE.

Both models integrate the CleanGenius system for intelligent cleaning via AI, which optimises routes and adjusts cleaning parameters automatically.

Autonomy and Battery

The battery is another aspect where the Dreame L50 Pro Ultra clearly stands out. It features a 6400 mAh capacity that provides up to 200 minutes of autonomy, compared to the 5200 mAh of the Dreame L40 Ultra AE. This greater autonomy of the L50 Pro Ultra proves especially useful in large homes or with multiple floors, reducing the need for intermediate recharges during cleaning.

Intelligent Functions

Neither of the two robot vacuum cleaners includes a robotic arm. In terms of obstacle-crossing capability, the Dreame L40 Ultra AE can overcome height differences of up to 20 mm, whilst the Dreame L50 Pro Ultra extends this capability up to 22-40 mm extra, which allows it to overcome thresholds and more pronounced floor transitions with greater ease.

The Dreame L50 Pro Ultra incorporates a simple built-in voice assistant, a function that isn't present in the Dreame L40 Ultra AE, allowing control of the robot through direct voice commands without the need for other devices.

Multifunction Cleaning Base

Both Dreame robot vacuum cleaners come equipped with a multifunction cleaning base that includes a detergent tank to optimise mopping. Storage capacities are identical: 3.2-litre dust bag, 4.5-litre clean water tank and 4-litre dirty water tank.

The main difference lies in the generation of the washing tray self-cleaning system: the Dreame L40 Ultra AE mounts the second generation, whilst the Dreame L50 Pro Ultra incorporates the third generation, presumably more efficient and complete. Both systems come fitted as standard.

Neither model includes ultraviolet disinfection nor integrated connection to water pipes, although both allow separate purchase of a direct connection kit to clean water pipes and drainage, ideal for users seeking maximum autonomy.

Dimensions

Both robots share the same diameter of 350 mm, but the height is different and relevant: the Dreame L50 Pro Ultra measures 89 mm tall, compared to the 97 mm of the Dreame L40 Ultra AE. These 8 mm of difference can be decisive for accessing under certain low furniture, sofas or beds.

The cleaning bases are identical in dimensions: 340 mm wide, 590.5 mm tall and 456.7 mm deep. Both require the same installation space in the home.

Conclusion: Which to Choose?

After analysing this comparison between the Dreame L40 Ultra AE and the Dreame L50 Pro Ultra, we can establish clear recommendations according to each user's profile:

  • Choose the Dreame L40 Ultra AE if: you're looking for a premium robot vacuum cleaner with excellent value for money, your home is medium-sized and you don't need maximum autonomy. It's a very complete option that covers all cleaning needs with great efficiency.
  • The Dreame L50 Pro Ultra is ideal for: large homes requiring greater battery autonomy, users who value the most advanced technology in navigation and AI, and those seeking additional functions such as the extendable and liftable side brush, greater obstacle-crossing capability, lower height to access under more furniture, and the possibility of leaving the mop pads at the base to only vacuum.

In short, both are excellent Dreame robot vacuum cleaners from 2025. The choice will depend on budget and whether the improvements of the L50 Pro Ultra justify the price difference for your specific needs. If you're looking for the best robot vacuum cleaner 2025 with the latest technology, the Dreame L50 Pro Ultra is the most advanced option; if you prefer a balance between features and price, the Dreame L40 Ultra AE won't disappoint you.
