Introduction

We're looking at two high-end robots with quite different approaches. The Dreame D20 Pro Plus from 2025 focuses on extreme autonomy and a basic mopping system without a multifunction base, whilst the Roborock Qrevo Curv S5X from 2024 centres on offering a complete professional mopping system with hot water washing and hot air drying of mops. Both units exceed 13,000 Pa of power and feature advanced laser navigation, but they're designed for users with very different needs.

The Dreame model is interesting for those seeking a robot vacuum that requires minimal intervention for emptying and can cover extensive surfaces in a single run. The Roborock unit, on the other hand, is aimed at those who prioritise professional-quality mopping with automatic mop maintenance.

Power and Suction

The power difference is notable. The Roborock Qrevo Curv S5X develops 18,500 Pa of suction, a figure that places it amongst the most powerful robots on the market. The Dreame D20 Pro Plus stays at 13,000 Pa, which is still more than sufficient power for most homes, although on thick carpets or with pets that shed a lot of hair, those extra 5,500 Pa can make a difference.

Regarding brushes, the Dreame equips its HyperStream Dual Brush system, specifically designed to minimise hair tangles. The Roborock uses the DuoDivide Antienredos, which pushes hairs towards the central suction gap. Both systems work well with pets, albeit with different designs. Both models incorporate an extendable, anti-tangle side brush, which improves corner pickup without hair tangles forming.

Neither model lifts the main brush or side brush during mopping, something that some higher-end models do offer to avoid wetting the brushes.

Mopping

Here we find the most important difference in this robot vacuum comparison. The Roborock Qrevo Curv S5X mounts two rotating mops that extend to better reach edges and lift up to 10 mm when detecting carpets or rugs. This active mopping system is much more effective than a static mop, especially on stuck-on stains.

The Dreame D20 Pro Plus equips a static mop without extension or lifting capability. This means mopping is more basic and carpets can get wet if the mop isn't removed manually or no-mop zones aren't configured in the app. For homes with many carpets, this limitation can be inconvenient.

The Qrevo Curv S5X's dirt detection analyses both the mops and the floor during cleaning, allowing it to go over dirtier areas again or rewash the mops when it detects they're soiled. The D20 Pro Plus doesn't incorporate this function, so mopping is uniform without adapting to the actual dirt level.

In practice, if mopping is a priority, the Roborock robot vacuum offers a clearly superior level. The Dreame is adequate for light maintenance, but isn't designed to replace a traditional mop for deep cleaning.

Navigation System

Both robots use a 3D LiDAR turret to map the home precisely and feature obstacle avoidance systems. The difference is that the Dreame D20 Pro Plus incorporates an additional front 3D laser sensor that improves detection of low and small objects. The Roborock Qrevo Curv S5X doesn't include this sensor, although it compensates with its RR Mason 11.0 algorithm and the SmartPlan 2.0 function that intelligently optimises cleaning routes.

Neither model mounts a front camera with artificial intelligence, pet recognition, curtain detection or LED for night vision. Nor do they allow remote camera access. They're very capable navigation systems but focused on laser, without the visual component that some high-end competitors do offer.

Autonomy and Battery

The battery capacity is identical: 5,200 mAh in both cases. However, the actual autonomy differs quite a bit. The Dreame D20 Pro Plus reaches 285 minutes of continuous operation, whilst the Roborock Qrevo Curv S5X stays at 180 minutes. This difference of almost two hours is explained by the Roborock's greater suction power and, above all, by the rotating mop system that consumes more energy.

For large homes of more than 200 square metres, those 285 minutes from the Dreame allow completing the entire clean without intermediate recharges. The Roborock may need to return to the base mid-session on very large surfaces, although its recharge and resume system works without problems.

Smart Functions

Both robots overcome obstacles up to 20 mm in height, allowing them to pass over thick cables, mats and small level changes without getting stuck. Both are compatible with external voice assistants such as Alexa or Google Home, but neither includes its own voice assistant integrated into the robot.

The Roborock stands out for its SmartPlan 2.0 function, which analyses the home's layout and automatically adjusts routes and cleaning modes according to floor type and detected dirt level. The Dreame doesn't offer this level of intelligent automation, although its app allows detailed manual configurations.

Multifunction Cleaning Base

This is probably the most determining difference between both models. The Roborock Qrevo Curv S5X features a complete multifunction base that not only empties dust, but washes the mops with hot water and dries them with hot air. During mopping, the robot periodically returns to the base to wash the mops, guaranteeing it always mops with clean mops. Upon finishing, it washes them again and dries them to prevent bad odours.

The base also includes a 2.0 self-cleaning system for the washing tray, 4-litre clean water tank and 3-litre dirty water tank. The dust bag has a 2.5-litre capacity.

The Dreame D20 Pro Plus only incorporates a self-emptying base for the dust container. It doesn't wash or dry mops, so they must be cleaned manually after each mopping session. The advantage is that the dust bag is 5 litres, double that of the Roborock, which means fewer bag changes. But there are no water tanks in the base because it doesn't have a washing function.

For those seeking total autonomy and complete freedom from mopping maintenance, the Roborock's base makes an enormous difference. The Dreame requires manual intervention every time you mop.

Dimensions

The Dreame D20 Pro Plus measures 350 mm in diameter and 96.8 mm in height. The Roborock Qrevo Curv S5X has 352 mm in diameter and 98 mm in height. The differences are minimal: barely 2 mm in diameter and just over 1 mm in height. Both fit without problems under most standard furniture.

The bases do differ quite a bit. The Dreame's measures 298 mm wide, 452 mm high and 440 mm deep. The Roborock's is more voluminous: 450 mm in all three dimensions, forming practically a cube. This makes sense because the Qrevo Curv S5X's base houses the clean and dirty water tanks, the washing and drying system, and all the mechanics necessary for the multifunction feature. The Dreame's only needs space for the dust bag.

Real-World User Experience

The Dreame D20 Pro Plus is ideal for large homes where autonomy is critical and mopping is secondary. With its 285 minutes of battery and its 5-litre bag, it can run for weeks with minimal intervention in vacuum mode. The robot's water tank is generous (350 ml), allowing mopping of large surfaces without refilling, although the mops must be washed by hand.

The Roborock Qrevo Curv S5X is designed for those who want professional mopping without touching anything. The mops wash and dry themselves, dirt detection adjusts intensity, and the extendable mops reach where others can't. The greater suction power is also noticeable on carpets and with pets. The robot's water tank is smaller (80 ml), but as it constantly returns to the base to wash mops, it's not a problem.

For homes with pets, both anti-tangle brush systems work well. The Roborock's greater power can make a difference with long hair or high-pile carpets. In homes with only hard floors and occasional mopping, the Dreame may be sufficient. If there are mixed carpets and parquet and you want quality mopping, the Roborock is clearly superior due to mop lifting and the automatic washing system.

Conclusion: Which to Choose?

Choose the Dreame D20 Pro Plus if: You have a large home (more than 150 m²) where autonomy is fundamental. If mopping is occasional and you don't mind washing the mops by hand. If you're looking for a large dust bag that requires few changes. If you prefer a more compact base and a tighter budget. If you value the front 3D laser sensor for better low obstacle detection.

Choose the Roborock Qrevo Curv S5X if: Quality mopping is a priority and you want to forget about mop maintenance. If you have carpets and need the mops to lift automatically. If you're looking for the maximum suction power available (18,500 Pa). If you value intelligent dirt detection and automatic route adjustment. If you prefer a complete system with hot washing and drying that guarantees hygiene and no bad odours. For medium-sized homes where 180 minutes of autonomy is sufficient but you want the best result on each pass.

In short, we're talking about two different philosophies within the high-end robot vacuum range. The Dreame prioritises extreme autonomy and low maintenance in vacuuming, with basic mopping. The Roborock offers an integral cleaning system where mopping reaches professional level thanks to its complete multifunction base. The choice depends on whether you value more not having to intervene for weeks or achieving the best possible mopping result without touching a mop.
