Introduction

This comparison analyses three mid-to-high-end robot vacuum cleaners launched in 2025: the Dreame D20 Pro Plus, the Dreame L40s Pro Ultra and the Roborock Qrevo S5V. We're talking about devices that represent different approaches within the world of automated cleaning, from solutions more focused on vacuuming to complete systems that integrate advanced mopping with multifunctional bases.

The Dreame D20 Pro Plus stands out for its autonomy and suction capacity, with a self-emptying base but without a mop washing system. The Dreame L40s Pro Ultra positions itself as the most complete model of the three, incorporating artificial intelligence technology, dual camera and a third-generation multifunctional base. The Roborock Qrevo S5V offers an interesting balance with its rotating mop system and hot air drying, maintaining the brand's characteristic quality seal.

Power and Suction

Suction power marks significant differences between these three models. The Dreame L40s Pro Ultra reaches 19,000 Pa, which represents the highest figure in this comparison. The Dreame D20 Pro Plus sits at 13,000 Pa, whilst the Roborock Qrevo S5V offers 12,000 Pa. In practice, these differences are particularly noticeable on carpets and when picking up ingrained dirt or heavy particles.

Regarding the brushing system, we find two different philosophies. Both Dreame models mount the HyperStream dual brush system, specifically designed to prevent hair tangles. The Roborock Qrevo S5V opts for its DuoDivide brush, which is also designed to minimise tangles by pushing hair towards the central suction gap. Both systems work well with pets, although they use different mechanisms.

An important difference appears in the main brush lifting. Only the Dreame L40s Pro Ultra can lift its main brush during mopping, which prevents it from getting wet and allows more efficient cleaning in mixed mode. The D20 Pro Plus and the Qrevo S5V keep the brush fixed.

As for the side brush, the L40s Pro Ultra also lifts its own when mopping, a function that neither the D20 Pro Plus nor the Qrevo S5V have. However, both the D20 Pro Plus and the L40s Pro Ultra incorporate an extendable side brush to better sweep corners, something the Roborock doesn't include. All three models feature anti-tangle side brush.

Mopping

Here we find the most radical difference between these three robots. The Dreame D20 Pro Plus uses a static mop and doesn't have a washing base, which considerably limits its mopping capabilities. This model is more focused on vacuuming than deep mopping.

The Dreame L40s Pro Ultra mounts two rotating mops at 180 RPM with edge extension and the RoboSwing system, which makes a characteristic movement to get the mops under overhangs and furniture. It can lift the mops up to 10.5 mm when it detects carpets or when it only needs to vacuum. Its multifunctional base washes the mops with hot water at 75°C and dries them with hot air at 45°C. Additionally, it incorporates third-generation tray self-cleaning and can automatically detach the mops at the base when you only want to vacuum without mopping.

The Roborock Qrevo S5V equips two rotating mops at 200 RPM, slightly faster than those of the L40s Pro Ultra, with edge extension and 10 mm lifting. Its base washes the mops with cold water and dries them with hot air at 45°C. It doesn't include tray self-cleaning nor can it automatically detach the mops.

The L40s Pro Ultra adds dirt detection both on the mops and on the floor, adjusting mopping as necessary. This function isn't present in the other two models. It also has a detergent tank in the base, something that neither the D20 Pro Plus nor the Qrevo S5V offer.

Navigation System

All three robots use 360° LiDAR turret navigation and feature obstacle avoidance. However, differences appear in the complementary detection systems.

The Dreame D20 Pro Plus and the L40s Pro Ultra incorporate a front 3D laser sensor to improve detection of low obstacles. The Roborock Qrevo S5V doesn't include this sensor.

The big difference is made by the Dreame L40s Pro Ultra with its dual camera with artificial intelligence, capable of recognising up to 180 different types of obstacles. It can identify pets, detect curtains and allows remote access to the camera for surveillance. It incorporates night vision LED to function in low light. Neither the D20 Pro Plus nor the Qrevo S5V have these visual capabilities.

Regarding intelligent cleaning, the L40s Pro Ultra mounts the CleanGenius 2.0 system, whilst the Qrevo S5V uses SmartPlan 1.0. The D20 Pro Plus doesn't incorporate this type of intelligent optimisation. The L40s Pro Ultra also adds AI stain recognition, a function absent in the other two models.

Autonomy and Battery

All three robots share the same battery capacity of 5,200 mAh, but actual autonomy varies considerably according to each model's consumption.

The Dreame D20 Pro Plus clearly leads with 285 minutes of autonomy, sufficient for large homes in a single run. The Dreame L40s Pro Ultra reaches 220 minutes, a logical figure considering its greater suction power and additional systems. The Roborock Qrevo S5V remains at 180 minutes, the tightest autonomy of the three.

For homes over 150 square metres, the autonomy of the D20 Pro Plus makes a difference. The L40s Pro Ultra and the Qrevo S5V may need intermediate recharging in very large homes, although in practice most households are covered by their autonomy figures.

Smart Functions

The ability to overcome obstacles shows similar figures but with an important nuance. The Dreame D20 Pro Plus and the Roborock Qrevo S5V can negotiate steps up to 20 mm. The Dreame L40s Pro Ultra goes further: it overcomes single steps of 22 mm and double steps of up to 40 mm, which extends its ability to move between rooms with different levels.

The L40s Pro Ultra includes its own voice assistant in addition to compatibility with Alexa and Google Home. The other two models only work with external assistants.

Multifunctional Cleaning Base

The differences in the bases largely determine the user experience of each robot. The Dreame D20 Pro Plus has a self-emptying base for the dust container with a 5-litre bag, the largest of the three. It doesn't have mop washing or drying functions, so mopping maintenance is completely manual.

The Dreame L40s Pro Ultra mounts a complete multifunctional base with self-emptying (3.2-litre bag), mop washing with hot water at 75°C, drying with hot air at 45°C and third-generation tray self-cleaning. Its water tanks are 4.5 litres for clean water and 4 litres for dirty water. It incorporates a detergent tank and there's an optional plumbing connection kit that's purchased separately.

The Roborock Qrevo S5V equips a multifunctional base with self-emptying (2.7-litre bag), mop washing with cold water and drying with hot air at 45°C. It doesn't include tray self-cleaning. Its tanks are 4 litres for clean water and 3.5 litres for dirty water. It doesn't have a detergent tank.

The hot water washing of the L40s Pro Ultra represents a real advantage over the cold water washing of the Qrevo S5V, especially for removing grease and adhered dirt on the mops.

Dimensions

All three robots have similar dimensions. The diameter varies minimally: 350 mm on both Dreame models and 353 mm on the Roborock. The height shows more differences: the Roborock Qrevo S5V is the lowest at 96.5 mm, followed by the Dreame D20 Pro Plus at 96.8 mm. The Dreame L40s Pro Ultra reaches 103.8 mm, which may limit its access under some low furniture.

The bases also present variations. The D20 Pro Plus is the most compact: 298 mm wide, 452 mm high and 440 mm deep. The multifunctional bases of the L40s Pro Ultra and the Qrevo S5V are more voluminous. The L40s Pro Ultra measures 340 mm wide, 590.5 mm high and 456.7 mm deep. The Qrevo S5V has 340 mm wide, 521 mm high and 487 mm deep, being the deepest of the three.

Real-world user experience

For large homes, the Dreame D20 Pro Plus offers the best autonomy and a more spacious dust bag that requires fewer changes. Its focus is clearly on powerful vacuuming with reduced dust container maintenance. Mopping takes a back seat as it doesn't have a washing base.

In homes with pets, all three models work well thanks to their anti-tangle brush systems. The Dreame L40s Pro Ultra adds the advantage of visually recognising pets and adjusting its behaviour, as well as offering the greatest suction power for ingrained hair.

If you're looking for efficient mopping, the Dreame L40s Pro Ultra and the Roborock Qrevo S5V are the valid options. The former stands out for its hot water washing, tray self-cleaning, dirt detection and automatic mop detachment capability. The Roborock offers a solid mopping system with faster mops and hot air drying, although without the extra functionalities of the L40s Pro Ultra.

For homes with many obstacles and objects on the floor, the dual camera with AI of the L40s Pro Ultra makes a real difference. Its ability to recognise 180 types of obstacles reduces interventions and jams. Remote access to the camera adds surveillance functionality.

The robot's tanks also condition usage. The D20 Pro Plus has 500 ml for dust and 350 ml for water, compared to the 300 ml for dust and 80 ml for water of the L40s Pro Ultra, and the 330 ml for dust and 80 ml for water of the Qrevo S5V. In practice, this matters little because the bases take care of emptying and refilling during cleaning.

Conclusion: Which one to choose?

Choose the Dreame D20 Pro Plus if you're looking for a robot focused on powerful vacuuming with great autonomy for large homes, you don't need advanced mopping and you prefer a compact base with large capacity bag. It's the most economical option of the three and works very well for those who prioritise vacuuming over mopping.

Choose the Dreame L40s Pro Ultra if you want the most complete and technologically advanced system, with professional mopping through hot water washing, intelligent dirt detection, visual recognition of obstacles and pets, and the possibility of automatically detaching the mops when you only need to vacuum. It's ideal for homes with pets, many obstacles and users seeking maximum automation with hardly any manual intervention.

Choose the Roborock Qrevo S5V if you're looking for a balance between price and features with a system
